Need something pre-galvanised for additional corrosion protection? Duragal Channel (Duragal PFC) can be used in lighter structural applications and sometimes even our hot dipped galvanised retaining wall PFCs and H-posts might also be used in a structural duty.

Parallel Flange Channel (PFC) — strong, versatile and easy to work with

PFC (often called “channel”) is a structural C-shaped section used where you want a strong member that’s practical to weld, bolt and brace into frames. It’s widely used for:

  • structural framing and supports
  • lintels and edge members (where specified)
  • equipment frames and fabricated supports
  • trailer frames and general heavy fabrication
  • Modular housing chassis / bases

Duragal Channel (PFC) — galvanised protection for exposed jobs

Duragal Channel is a factory applied galvanised PFC option for projects exposed to weather and moisture. It’s a smart pick for external framing, rural fabrication, and builds where long-term corrosion resistance matters. The channel profile is cold rolled into shape which means that the internal profile is square and doesn’t have any tapered corners like a typical hot-rolled PFC would have. This can be advantageous if nesting other members flush inside the channel. Duragal PFC is thinner than regular PFC and therefore isn’t widely used in structural applications.

What’s the difference between PFC, UB and UC?

  • PFC (Parallel Flange Channel) is a C-shaped section used for framing, edge members, bracing and general fabrication where you want an easy profile to bolt and weld to.

What’s the difference between a UB and a UC?

Both are structural “I-sections”, but:

  • UB is typically used as a beam (spanning).

UC is typically used as a column (vertical support) and is generally heavier through the web/flanges for that role.

How do I choose the right size beam or channel?

Start with:

  • what it needs to carry (load)
  • how far it spans (distance between supports)
  • how it’s supported and connected
